This past week MGM Resorts’ BetMGM online casino made its debut entrance into the newly regulated West Virginia online gambling markets.
West Virginia is actually very forward looking compared to most other states as they’re only the 5th state in America to regulate online casinos in the United States to date.
To everyone in the iGaming industry’s surprise, the United States has seen a mad rush into the legalization and regulation of USA online sports betting.
This is surprising because for nearly 2 decades various United States officials would make public statements that online gambling was illegal, when it fact that was not actually the case.
Yahoo and Google both voluntarily paid fines to the US Government to avoid prosecution charges and they stopped accepting internet casino advertising for a very long time.
New Jersey actually sued the United States for the rights to operate legal & regulated online gambling in the US.
And they WON!
Yet, even after new jersey won that major milestone for United States online casinos, just last year in early 2019 the Federal Government was once again claiming the internet gambling was illegal.
However, mid-2019 the US Supreme Court Judges made a final decision on the matter finally clarifying once and for all that online gambling is NOT illegal and it allows for states to pass their own regulations.
BetMGM Casino was already live in New Jersey and other a couple other states before the added WV to their list of states where players are allowed to play at BetMGM casino for real money.
Now that they’ve entered the West Virginia online casino gambling market it will be interesting to see where the player demand is at.
Will it be online sports gambling or internet casinos that make BetMGM the big bucks in WV?
My money is on sports betting in the short term and online casinos in the long run.
